Accounts of chemical research | liuqinghua research group was invited to publish a review paper on in situ synchrotron radiation spectroscopy

The study of surface interface dynamics of energy storage and conversion process has always been a hot and difficult point in the field of energy research, in which the detection of solid-liquid interface reaction dynamics is very challenging. Synchrotron radiation has many excellent characteristics, such as high brightness, good collimation, continuous spectrum and so on. It can effectively detect the local atomic and electronic structure of the material surface interface. It is very suitable for in-situ tracking the dynamic process of the structural changes of the solid-liquid interface in the reaction process, and real-time online detecting the changes and evolution laws of the active center structure of the solid-liquid interface and the reaction intermediates in the energy conversion process.

Recently, our National Synchrotron Radiation Laboratory/College of nuclear science and technology liuqinghua research group was invited to《Accounts of Chemical Research》(review of Chemical Research) published a review paper entitled”tracking the oxygen dynamics of solid – liquid electrochemical interfaces by correlativein situsynchrotron spectra”. Based on the previous research work of the team, taking the study on the reaction dynamics of oxygen related electrochemical solid-liquid interface as an example, starting from the basic principle of in-situ detection of synchrotron radiation spectroscopy and combined with several application examples, this review systematically and comprehensively introduces how to effectively obtain the dynamic”movie” of solid-liquid interface in the process of oxygen related energy conversion by combining in-situ synchrotron radiation infrared spectroscopy and X-ray absorption spectroscopy (Fig. 1), At the same time, it also points out the challenges in this research field and the future development direction.

In recent years, liuqinghua research group has been committed to the development and application of in-situ synchrotron radiation technology. Through the development of atomic precision in-situ synchrotron radiation infrared spectroscopy and X-ray absorption spectroscopy experimental technology, a series of important phased achievements have been made in the in-situ study of solid-liquid interface reaction kinetics of oxygen related/carbon related/nitrogen related energy conversion process (nat. energytwo thousand and nineteen,4, 115-122; J. Am. Chem. Soc.two thousand and twenty,142, 12306-12313; Nat. Chem.two thousand and twenty,12, 717-724; Nat. Energytwo thousand and twenty-one,6, 904-912; Nat. Commun.two thousand and twenty-one,12, 6118)。”Review of chemical research” is one of the three most authoritative review journals of chemistry and chemical engineering in the world. It has a distinctive feature of”self review”. It mainly describes the systematic research work of the corresponding author team. This time, it was invited to write a review paper in”review of chemical research”, It reflects that our scientific research team has formed a systematic and international influence in the development and application of in situ synchrotron radiation spectroscopy technology.

Liuqinghua, National Synchrotron Radiation Laboratory/College of nuclear science and technology, is the corresponding author of the paper. The first authors are Cheng Weiren and Su Hui. The research was supported by the National Natural Science Foundation of China and supported by the National Synchrotron Radiation Laboratory in Hefei and the synchrotron radiation facilities in Shanghai and Beijing.
